OUR MISSION:

The Austin buis foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides funds to those that could not otherwise afford to go to treatment.

In the summer of 2007

we tragically lost our beautiful 21 year old son /brother to drugs. This was devastating to our entire family. We would like to honor our son by reaching out to those who are fighting substance abuse. We pledge to use donations to provide for those that otherwise could not afford going to a treatment facility. Our goal is to give these individuals the tools needed to go on and live a life of sobriety by offering scholarships to various treatment facilities. It has been our experience that everyone knows of a family or friend that is struggling with addiction and we know firsthand the hurt of watching the downward spiral caused by this disease.

To date, we have sponsored 15 individuals who have completed treatment and are on a path to recovery. With your help, we know we can make a difference.

My name is Skylar

I came into contact with the Austin Buis Foundation Long before they offered to help me. I had known the entire family growing up as a child. At twenty four years old I was a hopeless addict living in my car, who had recently been arrested. I turned to my family to ask for help. My family didn't have the money, so my mother reached out to the Foundation for help. The Foundation made a decision to scholarship me through treatment. This was the beginning of my journey.

I completed the ninety day residential impatient treatment. After treatment I continued to stay involved in the twelve step programs I was introduced to. When I compare my life today to how it was before the Foundation gave me this opportunity I see a little boy who came from feelings of misery, pain, despair and agony into a life that I didn't know existed. I have a life that allows me to enjoy even the smallest joys. I have relationships with my family and friends that are healthy. I have the same job and residence since I left treatment, and had I not been provided with this last chance to get sober, I am not sure where I would be today. I extend my deepest gratitude to the Foundation. I could not have done this without the help of the Austin Buis Foundation.

I would like to share with you my experience while working the treatment program at Ocean Hills Recovery. The Austin Buis Foundation made the opportunity to get healthy available to me.

I was reluctant to make the call, and admit that I have a problem. A problem I couldn't fix myself. That I had hit rock bottom, and could not crawl out of the hole, was a helpless feeling. All I knew was how to dig the hole deeper. I had no idea where to look or what to do. I just knew I needed something that I could not provide myself. The Austin Buis Foundation provided the chance to get better, help myself and change my life.

I left the court room in Minnesota in the morning, and flew to California that evening to be admitted into the OHR program. I was beat up and broken from the inside out. The Foundation and OHR grabbed my hand, picked me up, and gave me the first push to sobriety. The rest was up to me.

Today I write this letter five months sober. I have not had that for over ten years. I am only 25. I had tried everything imaginable to fix this problem. I thought I could control it, but always failed. I would just crash harder each time.

This program has shown me that drugs and alcohol was not the solution to my problems. I was the problem. OHR helped me fix myself and gave me the tools to become a better person. I would not have the knowledge and courage to confront my problems without the assistance and generosity of the Austin Buis Foundation. I will strive to honor the memory of my cousin Austin, by living a grateful and sober life.
